Privacy Policy

What we collect through this website, how we use it, and how to ask us to change or delete it.

Beside the Line is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit (EIN 99-0581061) based in East Wenatchee, Washington. This policy explains what information we collect through this website, why we collect it, who sees it, and how you can ask us to change or delete it. It also serves as our Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy under Washington’s My Health My Data Act.

What We Collect

We only collect what you choose to send us through the forms on this site:

  • Request Support: your name, email, phone, city and state, best time to reach you, service line, your relationship to the first responder, and anything you share about what’s happening. That description may include health information, such as a mental or physical health condition or treatment.
  • Volunteer Application: your name, date of birth, city, state and ZIP, email, phone, the service lines and roles you’re interested in, your experience, availability, and your answers to our other questions.
  • Contact form: your name, email, topic, and message.
  • Newsletter sign-up: your email address.

Most of this comes directly from you. Sometimes a friend, coworker, or family member contacts us on a family’s behalf, and their message may include information about that family.

Like most websites, our hosting provider may also automatically record basic technical information, such as your browser type and IP address, to keep the site running and filter spam.

How We Use It

  • To respond to you and answer your questions.
  • To connect your family with resources and providers.
  • To review requests for financial assistance. These are reviewed and decided by our board of directors.
  • To review volunteer applications. Volunteers also complete a separate background check before serving.
  • To send our newsletter, if you signed up for it.
  • To keep the site secure and filter spam.

We use health information only to respond to the request you sent us.

Who Sees It

Requests for support are seen only by our board of directors. We never share your family’s name or story without your written permission.

We do not sell your information. We share it only in these situations:

  • With a resource or provider, only with your permission, when you ask us to help connect you.
  • With the services that run this website and our email: WordPress.com (Automattic), which hosts the site, runs our forms and newsletter, and filters spam, and Google, which provides the email account that receives form submissions. They handle the information on our behalf.
  • When required by law.

We do not share consumer health data with any affiliates. Donations are handled by Zeffy, and some fundraisers we list are hosted by other sites, such as Fund the First. Those sites have their own privacy policies.

Your Choices and Rights

You can ask us to tell you what information we have about you, send you a copy, correct it, or delete it. If you gave us permission to collect or share health information, you can withdraw that permission at any time. To make a request, email info@besidetheline.com or write to us at 630 Valley Mall Parkway, Suite 271, East Wenatchee, WA 98802. We will respond within the time the law requires. If we can’t do what you ask, we’ll tell you why, and you can ask us to reconsider.

You can unsubscribe from our newsletter at any time using the link in any newsletter email.

Children

This website is meant for adults. We don’t knowingly collect information from children under 13.
